Gafield Elm
Hiya everyone!
The Lord has really prepared the way this week. It seems anytime we went to find people to teach, that tons of people were interested. I also just felt more confidence to talk to people. So that was a great part of this week.
One of our friends is a hustler. He is building his own clothing buisness and making his own apps. His parents were super wealthy executives in the shell petrol company. But he knows the need for God and desired for a bible study, so we had one haha. We only managed to share 2 verses, but that was enough for him. He was gonna come to church even until we get to Sunday.... Well, we called him up after church and it turns out he got arrested on false charges. Anyway, that was interesting.
On Wednesday we had our zone conference in Gadfield Elm.
******HISTORY-Skip if you so please******
So, Gadfield Elm for those that don't know, (I didn't know either), is a church history site for us. The story is that there was this breakoff group from the Methodist sect who were seeking the truth. They were known as the United Brethren. Well, a man named Wilford Woodruff was serving his mission at the time and ran into them. He preached to them and basically all of them were convinced this was the truth they were seeking and joined the church. Their chapel known as Gadfield Elm became ours and is the oldest LDS chapel in the world. Wilford Woodruff later went on to become the prophet of the church. Almost all of church membership can be traced back somewhere to these United Brethren and the faith and sacrifice they made to join the faith, and leave to the States to settle in the Zion that is now Utah territory. And I really felt that as I was there. I am so greatful for the faith of all my ancestors.
Also, Benbow pond is another site we looked at. It was basically a very, simple unimpressive pond in a field in which all of these United Brethren were baptised by Wilford. The Lord does his work through small and simple means.
***************History over****************
That night we had a Dinner with a Brazilain family. The food was very simple. It was a roll cut in half, which you put hot dog, mashed potatoes, potato crisp and ketchup on. The funny part is that one of the guys there was JACKED. And Elder Raveau had the bright idea to arm wrestle him. So we all got roped into arm wrestling this guy and he made it seem like it was actually an even match lol
Nah, when he decided he just floored all of our arms. The video is hilarious though.
The best part of the week was when I saw a beaten white box wrapped in tape with the American flag on it at Zone Conference. When I opened it back at home I found notes, candy, and gifts from friends at home. That box meant so much and I really felt the love from you guys. Thanks everyone for talking this journey with me.
