Changes

Image
Good day everyone.    This week was a week of changes and it was much slower than I am used to.   Tuesday night, I was fortunate enough to have a dinner with some members. They were so kind to us and cooked us the legendary Sunday English Roast. The picture includes roast chicken and veggies, roast potatoes, carrot mash, baked broccoli and cream, baked cauliflower and cream, steamed vegetables, and most importantly the homemade gravy that pours over everything. Fine meal I tell ya (Also Blueberry Chocolate Cake for Dessert)   The next day we got news of a few things: -Our District (group of us in South Central England) is getting split up in response to the loads of missionaries coming in soon. So instead of being in a group if 13 or so people, I am in a group of 4...   -An Elder shattered his knuckle playing football, so because of that and other reasons we can't play sports unless we get it approved by our mission president, or it is our day off (Mondays)...

Lost and Found...

Hiya, everyone!   This was probably one of my harder weeks, but we made it and I am a more committed disciple because of it.   We were low on money and food early this week because of all the travel and chaos from the previous week. Elder Stoddart lost his debit card, and I didn't have enough money to cover without personal funds. But the Lord provided some help.   1.We did service at the food bank again and they got a huge shipment of frozen goods. We were helping to put it away but we quickly ran out of room so we were offered a ton of it. We took two bags full of frozen, marinated, PRE-COOKED chicken. Incredible. That helps us out a lot. We won't have to buy chicken anymore. 2. A man by the bus stop came to us and told us he had stolen some beer from the store just now. He payed for some groceries for "cover" though, but he didn't actually need them. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but he gave them to us. So we got groceries that way. 3. Elder Stoddart g...

Toad In A Hole!

Image
Good day everyone!   This week was definitely less hectic than the previous but we still were pretty busy.    We were able to have a dinner appointment with the Merry Family. This means we taught them a little and ate dinner with them. They cooked something proper British called "Toad in a Hole". Basically it is like a fluffy pancake with whole sausages on top. Then they made the CLASSIC British Gravy and we poured it over top. It was very tasty.  At that same appointment we had the opportunity to teach a recent member of the church over zoom. She shared how happy she was at baptism and about the Joy she felt as she learned about the Plan of Happiness and how she could live with her Family, who had passed away after this life forever. That is the Joy of this Gospel   We did some good cleaning in our Flat this week and built another Wardrobe! We also hung up pictures of Jesus Christ Everywhere. It is feeling more like home, my little "box" of Comfort. Still don't...

"Fo the Boys, Fo the Lod"

Hello Everyone. This week was one I will remember. It was a wild week of travel, travel mishaps, and just plain stupid situations that crack me up.   All was pretty chill up until Wednesday. We had the opportunity to have our Zone Conference in Plymouth! We got to hear Mission President Gallacher and his wife share about the new era of missionary service as pioneers through Covid. We also each had the opportunity to share our testimonies (What we know to be true through the witness of the Holy Ghost). It was a touching time to hear everyone share their faith and how it had been strengthened amidst the opposition. I too shared what it meant to be here and a little about my Faith in Jesus Christ.   On the way home, we got a little caught up talking to a friend on the train and the doors wouldn't open to let us off. So we ended up in Weymouth, the entirely wrong town. So, looking incredibly sus with a full Suit on, a pillow, and a cardboard box of gluten-free food we made th...

Getting To Work In Poole!

Image
Hey everyone!    This week was the final adjustment needed to be on track for the normal missionary life. MY area is Poole, UK! I arrived here last Sunday and met my companion for the next several weeks. It feels great to be at this point.   Our Flat is a little bit of a downgrade tbh. The Zone calls it "the shoebox" and indeed it is haha. But what made it worse is the previous Elder's did not take care of the place. It smelled rank, things were sticky, the dishes weren't done and there were SPIDERS in places where there shouldn't be spiders. But I got down and cleaned everything up and it is not bad anymore. Kind of cozy even.    My Companion is Elder Stoddart (insert random Mandarin characters below name). He is a Mandarin and English speaking Elder from North Ogden Utah. He was previously serving in Cardiff and Caerphilly, Wales. He has got about 5 months of experience out here and is helping me learn the ropes well. He is really good at Martial Arts and...
